FAQ

Getting started

Is the game free?

Yes, it is free to play.

Which devices are supported?

Phones and tablets running Android 8.0 or later. The game is played in landscape orientation. Janken Kingdom is an Android game, and there is no iPhone version at this time.

Can I play offline?

The first launch needs a connection, because you set your nickname then. After that, you can play Story Mode and CPU Battle without a connection. Online features such as Rank Match, Room Match, Friends, Ranking, and Replays need a connection.

How do I change the language?

Open Settings from the menu at the top left of the title screen, then choose Japanese or English under "Language". It changes immediately, without restarting the app. The first time you launch the app, it uses Japanese if your device is set to Japanese, and English otherwise.

I want to see the tutorial again.

You can replay the tutorial anytime from How to Play in the title screen menu. A summary of the rules is also on the How to Play page.

How do I change the volume or turn off sound?

In Settings, you can switch Music and Sound Effects on or off separately, and choose Low, Normal, or High volume for each.

Nickname and your data

What can I use for a nickname?

1 to 10 characters, using hiragana, katakana, and half-width letters and numbers. Kanji, symbols, emoji, and spaces cannot be used. Names that are already taken, or that contain words that are not allowed, cannot be used either.

Can I change my nickname?

Yes, from the name plate at the top right of the title screen. After you change it, you cannot change it again for 30 days (the first nickname you set does not start the 30 days). You cannot choose a name someone else already uses, and nicknames cannot be changed during maintenance.

I am changing phones. Can I transfer my data?

Yes, with a Transfer Code.

  1. On your current device, open Settings from the menu, choose Transfer, then press "Get Transfer Code". A 12-character code appears.
  2. On your new device, launch the app and enter the code in Settings under Transfer, or from the link for people who have a transfer code on the first nickname screen.

Your nickname, points, friends, stats, and medals carry over. The code works once, within 24 hours of being issued. After you transfer, the old device can no longer use that account. Please get a code before you change phones. Data that exists only on a device, such as settings, does not carry over.

I want to delete my account and data.

You can delete your account in Settings, under Account, with "Delete account". There are two confirmation steps. Your nickname, friends, points record, notification settings, and the replays you took part in are removed from the server. Data that exists only on your device, such as settings, remains. For details, see the Delete Your Account & Data page.

Rank Match, ranking, and medals

How do points and titles work in Rank Match?

In Rank Match (matches between players who have set a nickname), you gain points by winning and lose points by losing. You start with 1000 points, and your points decide your title.

Volunteer (up to 900), Soldier (901+), Bronze Knight (1050+), Silver Knight (1100+), Gold Knight (1200+), Grand General (1300+), Marshal (1400+), King (1500+), Emperor (1600+)

Your first 3 wins each day also give a bonus of +1 point (the day changes at 4 a.m. Japan time). For more, see the Ranking & Medals page.

When does the ranking reset?

The points ranking is divided into three-month seasons (they change in January, April, July, and October). When a season ends, its final ranking is recorded, and everyone's points are adjusted to move closer to the average. The monthly win-loss ranking (wins minus losses) resets on the 1st of each month. You can view past seasons and months on the Ranking screen.

Why do I keep matching with the same player?

The game looks for opponents with similar points first. The same two players can be matched at most 3 times a day, and not again for an hour after a match. If nobody else is searching, you will wait.

I cannot find an opponent in Rank Match.

While you wait, you can play a CPU Battle with "CPU Battle while waiting" (the search continues). When an opponent is found, the CPU Battle ends and your Rank Match begins. CPU Battle results are not recorded.

How do I earn medals?

There are Story medals and Rank Match medals.

  • Story: clear the story with a character without using Continue and without recruiting any companions. The color depends on the difficulty (Easy = bronze, Normal = silver, Hard = gold).
  • Rank Match: earn them with 100, 1,000, and 10,000 total wins. You also earn a medal for finishing in the top 10 of the monthly win-loss ranking or of a season.

Open Medals in the title screen menu to see the medals you have and how to earn each one.

Can I see my stats?

Yes. Open Stats from the menu to see, by season and by character, how often you played, your wins, draws, losses, and win rate (this covers Rank Match and Room Match; CPU Battle and Story Mode are not recorded).

Rooms, friends, and replays

How do I add a friend?

Open Friends from the menu to see your ID (8 letters and numbers; you can copy it). Under "Search", enter the other player's ID or their exact nickname and send a request. When they accept, you are friends. You can have up to 100 friends.

How does Room Match work?

Create a room, or join one from the list or by ID, sit at a table, and when both players press Ready, the match starts. You can also spectate, chat, and invite people. For details, see the How to Play page.

I am not receiving room invitation notifications.

Please check the following.

  • "Room invite alerts" is turned on in Settings.
  • Notifications are allowed for this app in your device settings (Android 13 and later asks for permission).
  • The other player has not turned off invitations from you in their Friends screen (if they have, you will not be told, and the invitation will not reach them).
  • While the app is open, a notice appears at the top of the screen instead of a notification.
Where can I watch replays?

Open Replays from the menu. You can watch your own matches and other players' matches. Rank Match and Room Match games are kept, up to the latest 100 of each (CPU Battle and Story Mode are not kept). After an update that changes the game rules, older matches can no longer be replayed, but their results can still be seen.

Connection, maintenance, and troubleshooting

What happens if my connection drops during a match?

The app reconnects automatically and brings you back to the match. Even if you closed the app, opening it again can return you to the match in progress. If a round's time limit passes while you are away, it is played automatically, just like running out of time (a random declaration, played as declared, no skills). Please play where the signal is good so you can come back quickly.

The game says "Maintenance".

While the server is being updated, new actions such as Rank Match, Room Match, and changing your nickname are unavailable. The title screen shows an approximate time. Matches that have already started can continue. During maintenance you can still play Story Mode and CPU Battle, and open the Characters screen and How to Play. Please wait a little while. Announcements appear under Notifications on the title screen.

The game says an update is required.

This screen appears when your app is out of date. Please update the app on Google Play.

I found a bug, or I have a question.

Please contact us from the Support & Contact page. It helps if you tell us your device model, your Android version, and what you were doing when it happened (and, if possible, what the screen looked like).
